Quartz glass is a type of glass that is composed of pure silicon dioxide. It is an amorphous, transparent and chemically resistant material. Due to its excellent optical and thermal properties, quartz glass has a variety of applications. It is mainly used as optical components, as it can tolerate extreme temperatures, as well as for its chemical and electrical properties. It is also used in the medical sector for a variety of medical and biochemical applications, such as for medical implants, for optical fibers, for bioreactors and for laser surgery. Non-transparent varieties of quartz glass are widely used in the electronics industry for their reflectivity, corrosion resistance and the ability to withstand extremely high temperatures. As such, they are used to protect electrical components. Quartz glass is also used in the military and aerospace sectors, due to its superior thermal, electrical and chemical resistance.
